Nintendo has finally arrived in Malaysia officially by opening a counter at the Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia - a country which is extremely well known for its rampant piracy.
Fans will pay approximately US$5 to US$10 more for a Nintendo DS title compared to legally imported copies from other gaming stores due to the taxes and other miscellanous expenses, but that premium comes attached with an official warranty and replacement policies from Nintendo.
This is a step in the right direction for Malaysia. Hopefully the local community will be able to support the new Nintendo store by paying a bit more at the beginning, which will then see lower prices in the future for original games.
Rumors abound that Nintendo will open a WiFi cafe at their store in order to promote wireless gaming for those with Nintendo DS and DS Lites. You will also be able to find hard-to-get titles here, even those on the GBA platform, although the latest Nintendo titles such as Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 have yet to arrive.
