Could the new PSP camera and GPS peripherals breathe new life into the PSP console? The answer leans toward the affirmative, as both devices extend the already impressive list of the PSP’s capabilities.
For example, the Hot Shot Golf’s communication with GPS transforms the game into a personal golf assistant whenever you step foot on one of the numerous golf courses that dot Japan’s landscape. We doubt serious people will pick up a PSP (do you know any golfers with a PSP?), but it could be a trump card by converting PSP owners into avid golfers. Perhaps golf clubs worldwide could tie up with Sony and offer free PSPs with each membership purchased.
Ohter examples of the GPS capability being perfectly suited for the PSP is largely due to the fact that the PSP has an extremely large screen which bodes well for GPS software. Nobody likes to get eye cramps from small screens, hence the PSP’s suitability.
We’re sure that if Nintendo ever includes a GPS unit in their DS Lite, they are guaranteed to release a Pokemon game that requires one to travel to different parts of the country or even the world to capture a certain Pokemon species. This will in turn sprout a whole new market on eBay as people all over the world will auction off their region-specific Pokemons. Talk about collecting them all!
