Jeanne d’Arc trailer
Check out the brand new Jeanne d’Arc trailer that features a handful of the game’s 150 characters. There are also tons of footage from the game’s cut scenes to keep you entertained as well as grid-based combat action. Based loosely on the story of the historical Joan of Arc, this Japanese-centric title for the PSP will come with 40 to 50 stages and ought to keep you occupied from anywhere between 7 hours to 25 hours before reaching the finish line. It might not be a Final Fantasy or even come close, but at least it offers something different in view of the current situation. Jeanne d’Arc will ship in Japan from November 20th onwards. It won’t be released in the U.S. at the moment, so you will have to import one if you want it for Christmas. Source: PSP Fanboy
Guitar Sim arrives on DS
The Nintendo DS Lite is a hotbed for creative games, and M-06 is yet another great example. This guitar simulation game is not exactly Guitar Hero on your handheld, but it uses the touchscreen instead for you to strum various notes, chords, and tunes in order to compose your veritable masterpiece. The stylus is used to pick the strings on display, while the D-pad controls tonal switching. For someone who is musically deaf like me, M-06 won’t appeal at all but those with a musical ear ought to look forward to this title with anticipation. If you’re living in the U.S., chances are you’ll have to import a copy. Source: DS Fanboy
New puzzle games come to PSP
PSP owners can lift a smile amidst disappointing hardware sales (relatively, that is) with the upcoming release of Lumines II and Every Extend Extra. Both games are published by Buena Vista Games and developed by Q Entertainment and can be picked from any retail store Stateside. Lumines II is the sequel to the best-selling Lumines puzzle game that took the PSP world by storm with its release, while the other title, Every Extend Extra, is a puzzle shooter that merges both classic arcade action with the necessary visuals and music to provide the most engaging gaming experience possible. Lumines II and Every Extend Extra will retail for $29.99 each. Source: Mobile Tech Review
Virtual GameBoy for S60 3rd Edition reviewed
Are smartphones finally powerful enough to run Game Boy emulators without any significant slowdown? We all know that the Game Boy was one of Nintendo’s masterstrokes, bringing affordable and quality handheld gaming to the world, but the proliferation of smartphones has brought about a sense of nostalgia for gamers who grew up on the Game Boy. The Virtual GameBoy emulator is capable of simulating both the Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color portable consoles on S60 3rd Edition devices. All About Symbian has done a quick review, and they came up with a glowing report. Games ran smoothly without any problems whatsoever, and there were no instances of crashing throughout the review period. Source: All About Symbian
PSP mod impossibly hard to replicate
Psyberjock from DCemu has the passion and time to come up with this delicate operation which turned his beloved PSP into something that is totally out of this world. The UMD disc tray emits a cool, blue glow of light after 30 hours of work and a few tablespoons of electrical wizardry. He claims that he will not post a How-To Guide as the difficulty level is just insane. It all adds up as if you can’t figure out this mod by yourself, chances of breaking the PSP or your UMD tray is extremely high. Source: PSP Fanboy
GTA: LCS a Greatest Hit now
Looks like the first Grand Theft Auto title for the PSP has now been relegated/upgraded (it is all a matter of perspective) to a Greatest Hit title for the budget conscious. You can now pick up this highly acclaimed game for just $20 a pop, bringing it down to the same price level as the PS2 version of the game. Granted, Liberty City Stories has graphics that aren’t up to par with the console version, but as Nintendo is showing the world at the moment – graphics isn’t everything as gameplay still plays a very important role in the world of video games. This is a great title to pick up for those who are new to the handheld arena. Source: Cheap Ass Gamer
Sonic to celebrate 10th anniversary on GBA
The original Sonic the Hedgehog game on the Sega Genesis will be re-released on the GBA platform later this month to celebrate the iconic video game character’s 10th anniversary in the business. Despite not having a “home” console to run about in, Sonic’s endearing quality still shows with him making an appearance on the new PlayStation 3 as well. This port of the Sega Genesis game features visually striking details that are true to the original platform game, but the GBA’s small screen size makes it hard to see all the environmental hazards around the world’s most famous hedgehog. There is no word on a release date yet as at press time despite a high level of anticipation from the game industry and gamers alike. Source: IGN
